Idaho — Sun Valley is one of the few ski resorts that needs no introduction.
Opened in 1936, Sun Valley Resort has grown in legend over the past 88 years due to various factors. The Idaho ski resort offers steep pistes, luxurious lodges, various dining options, a fast and rapidly modernizing lift network, and a European-themed village. It may not get the natural snowfall like Utah or Colorado, but it’s high-quality skiing and riding when it snows.
In the fifth episode of the Higher Ground YouTube series, world-class skier Lucy Sackbauer shows why Sun Valley is a must-visit destination. The previous four episodes covered independent ski resorts in Utah, including trips to Nordic Valley, Eagle Point, Sundance Resort, and Powder Mountain.
The video shows Lucy shredding Sun Valley with a ski patroller, exploring the backcountry with Olin Glenne from the Sturtevants Ski Shop, snowshoeing at the Galena Lodge, and visiting Rotarun Ski Area, a nearby community-run ski hill, among other fun activities. Ultimately, the video explains why Sun Valley (the ski resort and the surrounding community) is the heart and soul of skiing.
