Bridgton, Maine — If you’ve ever wanted to own a chair from a historic ski lift, there’s going to be a great opportunity to acquire one from Maine’s oldest ski area.
Yesterday, Pleasant Mountain (formerly known as Shawnee Peak) announced that they’ll be auctioning off triple chairs from the old Summit lift. The auction will begin next Monday (October 28th) at 12:30 p.m. and last until midnight on November 4th. Bids will begin at $350, with the highest bidding amounts winning the chairs. Proceeds from the auction will go towards Moose Pond Association, Loon Echo Land Trust, and Lakes Environmental Association (L.E.A.), all of which are local non-profits.
It will be a nice get for fans of Pleasant & Loon Mountain, as it was previously known as the North Peak Triple when it was at the New Hampshire ski resort.
If you do win a chair, you’ll have to pick it up at the ski area either on November 9th or 16th between 10 am-3 pm. The pickup location will be the Main parking lot. If you don’t come and pick it up by 3 p.m. on the 16th, the chair becomes the property of Pleasant Mountain once again.
This offseason, the Summit Triple is being replaced by a detachable high-speed quad chairlift. The chairlift will travel 1000 feet per minute with a vertical rise of 1220 feet. The Summit Express will have an uphill capacity of 2400 people per hour. The ride time will be 4.5 minutes, half the time of its predecessor. Unlike the Summit Triple, there will be no mid-station. The chairlift is the old Jordan Express from Sunday River, which was removed in 2022 to make way for the Jordan 8 bubble chairlift. Some chairlift additions change the way the mountain skis (like Attitash’s Mountaineer Express last winter), and Pleasant’s Summit Express will undoubtedly be part of that group.
