Jasper, Alberta — After a week of uncertainty, Marmot Basin is still standing.

Over the past two days, Marmot Basin has given two updates on the ski resort’s status. The first came on Friday afternoon. The Alberta ski resort thanked firefighters and first responders for their efforts in protecting the community. Marmot Basin added that they didn’t know yet whether the mountain had sustained any damage.

On Saturday, Marmot Basin provided an update to the Edmonton Journal. Brian Rode, who’s the vice president of marketing at Marmot Basin, released the following statement to the Alberta news outlet:

“We now have confirmation that Marmot Basin is unaffected by the fire. All of our facilities, our lifts and everything are completely intact.”

Downed trees blocked the access road, preventing employees from accessing the ski resort. Due to this, Marmot Basin was recently assessed by a firefighter crew brought in by the ski resort’s insurer. The crew found that Marmot Basin’s infrastructure, including the trails, buildings, and lifts, was unaffected.

The Jasper SkyTram, which is also owned by the owners of Marmot Basin, was unaffected. However, Whistlers Mountain, where the tram is based, was burnt by the fire. Its status for the remainder of the 2024 season is uncertain.
