New South Wales, Australia – Preparations for the 2024 ski season at Charlotte Pass Snow Resort were going according to plan. That was until a fire broke out.
In May, a fire caused major damage to the Sewage Treatment Plant at Charlotte Pass. This meant that the village was without a proper wastewater system for a while. Obviously, it’s hard to operate a ski resort without a proper wastewater system, so many feared they wouldn’t open this winter.
However, the resilient Charlotte Pass announced a revised opening date of July 5th, and work began. Thanks to help from AKS Industries, they solved the issue quickly. They demolished the old plant, and the new equipment was assembled at AKS Industries factory last month. It was installed on June 23rd and promptly connected to their existing infrastructure.
Charlotte Pass opened for the season on July 5th. Like most of Australia’s ski industry, there’s been a lack of snowfall this season, so they’re relying mostly on snowmaking. All of their four lifts are open. However, the Kosciuszko chairlift is only currently open to the mid-station. Four trails are currently open, with snowmaking continuing as the weather permits.
Congrats to the crew at Charlotte Pass and AKS Industries on all their hard work in opening the mountain!
